serial numbers

is there a place on the web i can identify merc engines if i have the serial number? if not, what is a 0C176322?

went to merc parts express page they dont tell a HP,but from looking at pictures its a 2 cyl 40 or 50 hp.sorry couldnt find out more. Dan

it is a 15M

built and sold back in 1989

there really isnt a place to do serial number searches online, any merc dealer can look them up for you, or you can post and ask questions here and you will usually get responses from me or others that have access to the info

I was able to pick up a copy of Mercuy's Midas Software off of e-bay. It is a great tool to have to see what parts cross and help keep my engine's stright. I have many 2.4 and I have a couple of 2.0 also.
