I'm looking for a starting point prop for a VKing with 175 ProXS, 4" setback, LWP. Have found a 26 big ear chopper. Plan to start 1" above pad. Thoughts?

Start even or slightly under and bump up from there in 1/8"-1/4" increments. Mine never liked anything above even w/ pad with a 2.5 convertible setback.....it REFUSED to carry the bow......although some of that may have been due to my old school cone L&S cone.

A Viking hull and pad is not the same as a Viper's and therefore will respond differently. This, plus different engine, setback, hull length, weight placement, overall weight, driver weight, etc. Need more information then can recommend a ballpark setup to start with.

Agreed wholeheartedly John, I understand there are significant differences between the two.....pad dimension, flat vs wedge, minus one set of strakes, weight etc etc....I just figured for the info given, even was a good ballpark to start with. For once I gave the abbreviated version...very atypical of my usual responses. :D

Mine runs good at about even with the pad. Hot set-up will be a 6'' elec or hydraulic jack plate. Big blade chopper 28p will run good. Might like a ET 28p also.... If your runnin 1.87 gears you will have to keep the Rs down to about 6000 or so at the top. The XS 175s are closer to 200hp and are great runnin efficent motors. With a 2.5 200 my V-King will turn a 28 bb chopper to 7000, and a 28 ET to 6850. Yours should be close to the same wt., straight bottom and sharp strakes etc. So should be some what comparable....
