Looking at buying a Flex Hone (ball Hone). But, not sure what size to buy and what type of abrasive? Steel sleeve motor. Thanks.

Is this on the one that ate #6? If so, you may want to rigid hone it due to the damage from the melted piston. Ball hones are to deglaze and will not reshape the cylinder if out of round. Just my .02:cheers:

Using a ridge hone on egged damaged bores hits the highs and misses the lows and when the low is finialy touched the bore is IMO too large I like the small end of bore size speck, I find they seal and make more power for me that way..
I use a special bending tool to reshape the bore exactly round then I de glaze with the ball hone I suggested , the bore then stays at the tighter bore speck size, seal better and make more power...
just some more added opinion on different ways to skin the cat,
Jay ;):thumbsup::D

For the most part I live by the .003 rule. I have built them dead on with no additional clearance and with .003 additional clearance and have not been able to tell the difference and not seen a change in hole shot or in GPS speeds by the owners. Most of my guys have had their boats for a long time and can tell you what they will run what time of year and the engines that are .003 over run the same as they did before when they were new. After they are broke in, I still have 4-8% leakage (dead on will have 2-6 %) so I don't think there can be that much of a difference, at least I have never seen it or experience it. But these are my experience and opinions on the many FISHING engines I have built over the years. My guys are fishing and not running for trophys where a 1/100th of a second counts. I have a 2L running around with .005 clearance that is very mean and has been running for years that way! But I have started boring all my engines now because it is faster for me than spending the time to clean the pistons. Takes me 1.5hrs to bore/hone all 6 cylinders versus 6-8hrs bead blasting the pistons and polishing the pins then washing everything. The reason I asked is he has a post that had a lot of damage on 1 of his cylinder. Just making sure he didn't have thoughts that a ball hone would cure it.
