Well, I scored this piece the other day and for what I paid for it was worth it even if it is nothing more then a decoration piece.

I think the guy said it was like a 1996 Merc racing piece but I really cant remember now. He didnt sound like he knew what he was really talking about to begin with and he is not the boater type at all. He got it in a lot of stuff he picked up from his son or something. There was a ton of old jet stuff and some v-drive stuff too but it was all in sad shape but I seen this, tossed him a crazy low number and he said, "ok, I have zero use for it and would just junk it anyways I think".

These are the only numbers I can find on it.

Studs up SpeedMaster looks to be a VI (#6). I might be wrong on the #6 part.

Well, I have nothing to put it on so it will it in the office for now and just look good and now seeing that dollar amount posted above I feel like I stole it from the guy. Thanks for all the info. :D

Well, I am thinking of selling this to fund my vulture so I can get back on the water in the next month or two and have no clue of what would be a fair asking price or even if there would be a big demand for this or where to go to sell it other then here. Any help would be great.

And yes, This piece has never been mounted or had anything in it ever. It is 100% unused. It was polished but not sure by who and thats it.

Cool piece. They used 2 drive shafts, (split off the mainshaft) and 2 gears driving the prop shaft..badass.

I don't think you could ever cost effectively build a # VI or IV speedmaster piece by piece. It would cost a fortune. You can buy a good used # IV for around $3000.00. If it were mine and wanted to get rid of it, I would post it on APR website or see if someone that rebuilds them would buy it. There are several people that build most of our racing gearcases. Brendon Powers, Chris Fairchild, and Dave Steckbauer and I am sure others.

Certainly someone who has good internals would be interested,,,,,,
