Hmmmm, I think you've been floatin' around in Parker Rabe's old picture box. I think he told me the V drive with the Hemi and the T2 on back was a mock up that didn't run????????

Notice the 2 different Twister II decals. Both are Twister II's with the pin type fasteners, neither an X with the rubber straps like a T-3.

#2 says "Super Six" in the center black portion and #5 says "Twister II Six" in the same place.

Do both say "1400" in one of the blue bands and "99.9 ci" or "Twister II" in the other blue band?

Thanks for the better detail on the red stripe Twister, I can see how the housing is slightly different from the later ones.

I was told that the SUPER SIX would draw some attention....

More to come...just wait.....

Pic one is a Twister 1

Sam, there are at least two designs in the red stripes. The reason I know this is that I have one of each. One is exactly like the one in the picture, here's the other. This one dumps water from the bottom as opposed to having the discharge hose at the top like the other one posted. The engine in this picture may be the most original in existance. It was never on a race boat and the original owner and his daughter were debating whether it had less than 10 or less than 5 hours on it when I bought it. It now powers an engine stand.

RM, In that photo it looks like that setup had only a single steering cable? I never noticed that the red strip twisters didn't have a louvered BP type cowling, Where did they pull air from?

Raceman

Craze, the Twister 1's didn't use the louvers either. I guess they pulled in from around the face plate and other various places like the other inlines. That boat did have only 1 steering cable but with the Speedmaster there wasn't any steering torque. If I'd rigged it I'd have run dual ride guide anyway.

Here's a picture of the same engine from the rear.

RM ,Sorry for the questions but in that shot from behind, The trim cly. rods are mounted with the offset opposite a standard inline? Just wondering why that would need to be reversed.

The main air inlet on an inline six Merc is through the "hand hole" where you would reach back to manually pull the motor up (top back of the top cowl). Also notice that the cowl is cut away with a pretty good gap around the exhaust housing, plenty of air available through there, too.

Here is a close up of the "Super Six" decal. If anyone has one of these motors, it appears to be of great interest here to learn if they use the "BP" type housing and the 135 type block that actually fits the "BP" type housing or a 140 type block and one stud left off.

Looks like I was wrong in the other thread...this motor may not say Twister II on it anywhere....here's a new idea: Maybe Merc never intended to call them T-2's, but went with the name after people called them that regardless of the decal...sort of like going with the T-3 name after people short handed the 1750xs-Twister-3 name.

I always thought that Merc first called em C6's, then T2's and they were the same engine. The picture that I posted with the closed housing at the bottom seems to have the old 1350 style bolt pattern at the top as far as I can tell from closer examination. That same engine has the 1400 Super Six stickers and the 1400 had the new bolt pattern, so there seems to be a paradox there. Unless somebody who fooled with em a lot then, and has a lot better memory than I do now, says for sure I guess we'll just keep speculating.

Crazy, since the mids on the Twisters and BP's are fatter, I think the swivel bracket is different also. I'll try to remember to measure a Twister and a 1500XS tomorrow. That may account for the way the ends of the rams are mounted.

Parker, the way we did some of the slides before was to get in a dark room and project em on the wall (finding a slide projector that still worked was the hard part) and shot pictures of the projected image with a digital. It worked pretty well. I also took some to a camera shop and had em print pictures from em which turned out better.

I was out lookin' at the old red Twister yesterday. It still amazes me to have found something that's just a time capsule like it is. Supposedly it had either less than 5 or less than 10 hrs on it when I bought it, depending on whether you believe the original owner or his daughter more. It was used on a pleasure boat and they both agreed that they only took it to the lake 3 or 4 times and it wasn't satisfactory for the application, and basically they just gave up and stored it. The silver paint on the powerhead doesn't even have a stain on it anywhere. I wish I could find some other race stuff in that condition, but I don't guess it exists unless at the factory on display.

It would work that way too but resolution would be dramatically decreased. If you had a high gain screen and a large Mpixel camera with a tripod it might work.
My 1200 x 4800 dpi scanner has an adapter for slides and negatives if you want to go that route as well.
just my 2, I don't know much about pornography, I mean photography, though.
