When I bought my boat it had duck bill plugs on it. I ran it with them for about six months to test em out. They did let a noticable amount of water in the boat but not a ridiculous amount. I ditched em for regular style plugs. I did hear of a guy using them who parked his boat at his camp overnight and woke up to a sunken boat...

You don't want them. One small stick, leaf, etc = leak. I have even had one come off.

Only used mostly (and this was years ago) on little Hydro's...that never sat in the water. Have a useful purpose, but not any boat that sits in the water...

Have had them in a ton of boats (STV, Whaler, Vector etc) w/o issue and love them. They are almost impossible to find though.

I like em also. Have them on the STV. They can fail and if you leave your boat in the water for any extended time there will always be that chance.

certainly not an overnight thing. i have used before with success, but i pulled them an got a bilge pump. they are nice if you dont have a bilge and you have kids playing getting in and out of the boat with water dripping off of them. kids seem to get plenty of water in the boat.

The biggest problem we have seen with them is that they won`t stay on. A fast boat will loose them somehow.

I used the screw on caps on my race boats they are a positive seal , the duck bills can cause issues.. A ty rap lodged in one can be the kiss of death. ( sunk boat )

Well why risk a small piece of debris lodging in the flapper causing water entry in the boat and possible sinking during along day of Sandbar partying ? The standard screw in rubber drain plugs are basically fool proof is all . I have been at a few events where the duckbill deals have caused more harm than good .

I hear ya Tom.....thats why I was asking around....I have 3 little girls that have more fun climbing in and out of the boat than anything else, was just looking at options.

I like them have not had any problems yet, the inside of the boat must be CLEAN as said no loose tie wraps, butts, sticks, etc. or they leak. I would need 3 bilge pumps in my boat with 16amp chrg system seemed the way to go, the boat sits so low in the water on a rough water day it always seems to take on water. As soon as you get on plane all the water is gone and no worry about keeping batt charged, wouldn't trust them overnite. If they get old and hard could see them being a problem, lots of 303 seems to keep them soft and leak free.
