I did a quick search and couldn't really find the answer.

I just noticed today my case is cracked starting from the back to half way to the nose just above the skag.

Two questions:

What years and sizes can I use to replace it?

Also, if all I can find is a 20" can I just replace the shaft with mine to make it a 25"?

Pretty much like a black max but with different stickers on the cowling.

there is a casting number inside the tail section next to the exhaust cavity where the two studs are close together it should be 1647-9147 or 9147-C or C1,or small bearing C2,3,4 match those numbers or actually any of the first group will interchange or the last group will interchange but not with each other

I think Texas225 misunderstood your question. From his answer it looks like he assumed you want to find a bare housing and put in your guts. I read it that you are looking for a whole gearcase assembly. All 2, 2.4 and 2.5 gearcases interchange when changing the whole gearcase assembly. You may in some cases have to change a stud or 3 and when buying a used one the gear ratio could be different from what you have. As to the driveshaft lenght question if you cant find a used 25 inch gearcase you can get an adapter for less money than it would take to buy a driveshaft and have it professionally restored.

yes i did misunderstand it if you cant find anything but a 20' you would only need a 5'' drive shaft extension thats all, but replacing the drive shaft is a snap for any mechanic
