running slightly modified faststrike 150 , cut heads, fitch reed cages, running a QL82YC champion, heard on another web that changing plugs could help performance. motor just does not have the uumff out of the hole and did not see much rpm increase. colud anyone advise on another plug to try?

also does anyone know the rev limiter for these engines and how to disconnect it????

thanks

On the faststrike blocks your not going to see much improvement until someone figures out a way to open up the exhast ,the chest is the problem with making any serious hpower with the engines, just won't flow enough to build power after around 5800

Any input on the Eagle appreciated. I have a '91 Intruder 175 with stock internals and I would like to have some more on the top. Currently spinning 26 Raker or 27 SRX appr 5800. Bottom and mid is excellent but going any bigger on the wheel will definately hurt overall performance.

I am aware that the Eagles were not designed for high rpm. Cutting the heads is not recommended either and won't probably show any gains in the upper curve. How will the Eagle respond to "cleaning up the ports" ? There seems to be a lot of mismatch in the sleeves.

Are there any aftermarket hiperf parts coming for the Eagles ?

If you are running the plugs recommended by the OEM or something reasonably close, changing plugs will give you minimal performance gains.

(Unless those plugs have been sitting there since you bought the engine in '96 :) )

when you say we took those out, who are you talking about?

We changed the heat range cuz 82's were too hot and may cause a piston problem. That plug was a recommendation from champ. We later sent out asevice bulletin to that effect.

who is champ? you sound like you work for omc, do you know the rev limiter for this motor and how to disconnect it?

also, do you know if t somebody makes solid motor mounts for this motor?

Is Champion spark plugs, the rev limiter is at 6100, you can wire around the limiter bur you lose the other accesories in the pack. I don't know if someone makes mounts for that engine. I worked for OMC for 15yrs. Read my card under my name "performance specialist" OMC Performance Group.

since you worked at omc, what do you think about NPW's reply, first reply since post? what are pro's and con's about this motor. do you know of any tricks?

thanks for all your info.:D :D :D :D

Making a race motor out of this definately requires opening the exhaust area. Remember this was designed as a bassboat engine and the exhaust is constricted to give it bottom end power. Some of the later castings have better exhaust passages but you would have to get a different block. We've run these as high as 6700 but only for drag racing. On a bass application you really don't see a gain on 150's by spining it up. Cut the heads alittle bit change the reeds, call it good. If you really want to take it apart and match up the ports, thats the biggest gain you'll see. Alot of people will tell you to port it, that will make more peak power but you will lose alot on the bottom
