I had a guy tell me that all mercury lower unit gears are standard unless you have a sportmaster...

he said torquemaster gears are standard, the only upgrades are sportmaster...

I always thought torquemaster gears were a heavy duty gear... just as the sportmaster

You are correct, TM has same internals as a Sportmaster, not sure if they ever did "Fat Shaft" TM's?

The 3.0 Torquemasters are fatshaft. I don't know about the gears, but the 3.0 torque and sportmaster have double bearings on the driveshaft.

The 2.5 Sporty's do too.
