Anodizing paint?

I just bought some paint that is supposed to look like an anodized finish once applied over chrome. or aluminum. Anyone try it? Any tips?

I have used it but be sure to get the adhesion promoter and follow the directions exactly, ie; times between recoats etc. I clear coated with Mercury's clear coat. I will post a pic or two.

Here are a few, they have a under coat called ground coat but think it looks better with out. I sanded the aluminum with 400 then adh. promoter, color depends on # of color coats.

Duplicolour Metalcast

I bought the metalcast to try on the bezels on my paramount and it worked great. My girlfriend actually sanded and painted 10 gauge bezels, 4 fishin pole holders and 3 pop up cleat bezels and they came out great! Just make sure the surface is sanded about 220 seemed to work best for us. Then you have to make sure you lay an even amount of paint on everything to keep it all the same color. Then lay a couple coats of clear over it otherwise it looks like crap! The more coats you put on it the darker it gets. It has been on the boat since i put it back together seems to be holding up good. Ill try to get some pics of it in the sun :thumbsup:

I did my flywheel blue and was happy with the results. I used an etching primer as opposed to the actual metal cast primer though. I've been told that you lose some of the metalic look if you don't use it as recomended.

Duplicolor Metalcast. Scuff the crome and go, I did not use primer. Looked good to me. Less than 1/2 can of paint for both rims.

I have seen it at Canuck Tire but the wife got it when she was running a parts store. I took 2 small hunks of aluminum and painted one with adhesion promoter the other without, mounted them on the ft lic plate of my truck. I ran them for a month in the spring, snow, salt, gravel, bugs, etc. pounding the parts at 120km. Spring time in the mountains is a good torture test, the one with adhesion promoter held up way better.
The cool thing about the adhesion promoter is that it is clear so you get a neat effect when painting on bare aluminum or chrome as the metal cast is semi transparent. Suggest you try a few scrap parts to really see how it can look with different bases. Good luck.

How did it last on your rails?? Looks great...I'd like to do something like that but flatlander skids take more abuse I think....

I have only put about 300 miles on the rails but it seems to be holding out well. Not much dirt and gravel in the mountains untill late spring, think that will mark them up some. The billit wheel will take a pounding too, haven't done a lot of spring rides last year was real unsafe avalanche hazzard was nuts.
I think the clear coat helps.
