Previous summer, on my Mini Hawk, I was running with a heavy 25' Merc. It put alot of weight on the back. The boat bounced alot.
But, I have just received an engine from my friend at the yacht club...it is the same HP as the merc (25) but it is an Evinrude. The thing is, it looks smaller then the Merc. Will putting that engine on my Mini Hawk change the way it performs. Anyone own a Mini Hawk and run a 25 Evinrude on it?Here is a picture of the current setup 227062

Sent a message to John from Saris Racing. Maybe he will come on here and tell you what to do.

Doubt it.
What the hell?
And yes, short mid is good. If you can get your hands on a CMC setback/trim unit it helps tones. Be good SAM

Put both engines on the boat at the same time, then open up the throttles and hold both engines dead straight. If it turns toward the Evinrude side, the Merc is more powerful. If it turns toward the Merc, the Evinrude is more powerful.
At that point you will officially be an engineer and as smart as Triple Digits.

They both weigh about the same, better props are availiable for the merc, it will last longer running the hell out of it in stock form all things equal and barring fuel related issues.
The evinrude may make a bit more power and can be modified easier, but the gearcase is a bit more fragile concerning clutch dog/forward gear area. They have head gasket issues and salt water kicks their ass.
The merc 25 propshafts are a bit soft, but if your not going out chopping rocks you'll be fine.
6 of one half dozen of the other, but it's not the motor making your boat bounce, you have a set up issue that is more easily solved by other means than swapping motors around.

I think a higher X will help. I wonder if T2x would be able to tell us what would happen with 3 engines. Maybe a Yamaha in the middle.

Every time I see one of those boats they are porpoising. In addition to asking here, I would go on Youtube and look at every video I could find and see what looks like its running the best. If you find one that seems to run real flat, send a message to the owner and see if he can provide some advice.

Better props available for the Merc? Err, a hub is an easy thing to change no?

Here is one of mine:

so it seems that putting a trim/tilt onto the back will fix the issue?

Yes, you can trim it down a bit and even it out until your running hard. I also had a custom BBLADES prop on mine, which helped a ton.

Thats some funny stuff there- would test results need to be interpreted differently if one of the engines had a 'top secret' gearcase on it that is not subject to the laws of physics and can only be tested if no one is around?
Sam- enjoy that minihawk...looks like a fun little ride

Thanks Fandango!
Its a fun little boat, and I will keep it this coming season as well, then will most likely upgrade to something bigger and faster.
