you bet dok,i used to attend the 24 when i was younger! was a blast to drive across the state with my racefriends in a borrowed or rented motorhome & party all weekend.we would stay awake for the duration & walk the track infeild ( lors of t & a )& pits.the most exciting era was during the gtp days ,man those portotype cars were bad!

Tivo all set. Been in Fla almost 5yrs and ashamed I to admit I haven't been. Was going to do Sebring this yr but their cheapest tickets are $75. per which I ain't got. Was going to take the Mrs and camp.
Been a fan of both races for ever. My old boat racing partner does photography at LeMans every yr.

yea gary ,i hear ya! the price of admission has pizzed me off to the point that i no longer go to the rolex or bikeweek.i'm a race fan & would spend my days at the track! not into the bars & beach sceen.nowadays the hi def tv coverage is waaay better than all the bs of attending a race, i like my couch, clean bathrooms ,my fridge & knowing exactly what is going on while watching .:thumbsup:

No doubt. Different camera angles, replays etc, etc. Still not the same though.
When I lived in Cols,Ohio they had a huge IMSA street race (Cols 500) through down town that was pretty amazing. Back in the '80's and lasted 4 yrs. Still have it on video. I went every day from practice through final heats all 4 yrs. Amazing stuff in that era. Al Holbert trying to give Porsche it's last hurah in GTP against Geoff Brabham in his beggining yrs of domination in the Nissan and Scotty Pruett driving the freakin wheels off his Mustang's in GTO! Have video of him, Jack Baldwin and Willy T. Ribbs rubbing door handles off! All three got penalized for rough driving one year. Amazing stuff!
Was always a huge Porsche fan but will always remember the sound of the V-12 jags echoing off the sky srapers while they ripped through down town.
We actually snuck into a $1K a plate dinner with the Mayor and all the racers in our shorts and T shirts. Didn't last long but we did make it through the bar and buffet twice before being escorted out.

4 cars on the lead lap after 24 hours - amazing. I remember margins where they would bring the leader in and wash and wax the car for the checkered flag pictures. Gary, do you remember chicken man? Or kids on dirt bikes wheelying thru the infield. We had it pretty well figured out - we'd rent a small u-haul trailer and load it up with firewood and a barrel, unload it when camp was set-up, drill a hole in the bottom for the pee tube and it became a private bathroom - girls appreciated it. We had some real characters hangin around the fire barrel. It was an annual pilgramidge for the longest time, along with Sebring. Going to the 12 hr next month, pretty excited.

Worked in the Pits as a fuel deadman about four years ago at the 24. It was a great experience but grueling. Never thought I'd have the chance to work in the pits at a race in Daytona. Life has been good!
