This is a 84 centrurion mini speed boat. I dont know much about this just getting started on building boats. I have read some stuff about setting up for the right size motor. I think it needs a long shaft motor it mesurese 21" from bottom to top of transom. but have been told it needs a short shaft also. sooo i need some help lol .. I have never set up a boat before only been into ATV my whole life.. looking to go fast too.. I found a 40hp yamaha long shaft i would like to put on it but like i said dont know what size shaft it needs please help me

It should have a short shaft (15") on it. A long shaft would be top heavy and really look odd.

I'd say keep it simple -just get a short shaft motor(15") and prop it right.

Judgeing only by the fact that Evo's boat is on a cardboard box and the 15" 50 mercury is huge, I would put money down that it really hauls @$$.

15" 40hp yammie modded
propshaft is 1-1/2 above bottom 4" setback from transom.
I have a 23 pitch cleaver that i cut down from a 14-1/2 to a 12"
I have seen a best of 56mph gps. It should go well into the 60s.
I think the prop needs to be 11-1/4 or 11-1/2 dia. For it wont spin the motor up. Right now. kind of lugs around.
Good luck with yours they are a blast:D

Here are some shots of my son's boat... we have the molds for these... We have a built a few of them in the past but don't plan to build any more... too much work for what you get. I think the Centurions are a version of this hull which was originally built by Eliminator... I believe the Centurions might be a bit shorter??? These are 11.6' and my son runs a 30HP Yamaha 15" with a aftermarket Power trim which make a huge difference! Depending which prop he runs, if will run from about 42 mph with a ski prop and he's seen 52 with a chopper and the engine raised a bit... The very best addition you can make to one of these boats is a bilge pump! They are a must!
If you can find a 15" 40HP, that would work awesome... Believe it or not, it will tow skiers very well, it's a great, fun boat!
Cheers,
Mike

Levi, welcome to performance boating!
These guys are steering you in the right direction. You're going to want a 15" engine.
With small boats the most important thing is to keep the weight to an absolute minimum.
Our customers who run the sport c class with Tohatsu/Nissan, OMC, and other 40 HP engines run 63 to 64 mph. The run with a total rig weight (w/ driver) of 675 lbs. They are able to do this because they have great racing cleaver propellers, strong powerheads, setup and most importantly overall weight.
If there is anything that we can do for you, don't hesitate to send an email or call.
[email protected].
Good luck Levi and be safe!

Guys, I'm in love. It almost makes me want to junk my Hydrostream vipee and get one of these! Almost, but not quite! I may get one after I finish my current boats. Do y'all have any tips for buying ie.: is there any core material to worry about, light layup on glass, poor craftsmanship, etc?

I have no clue with what type of jackplate to use, i dont know if they make a smaller one or what. Ive gone 70 miles of pretty hard running on 13 gallons with my 130 Yamaha. That barley gets me to the inlet in the big boat.
I can get about 7mpg if I just cruise with a big prop.

That's how it is with my 90, I have a 100% stock powerhead on it right now, @ 6000 with the big cleaver it runs 70.8mph the gas just stays in the tank. Your going to want to get the motor up if not for speed but for holeshot. These little boats want to stand on there tail when they launch. The lower the motor, the more leverage trying to lift the bow. With the motor higher it will flatter without plowing. Of course, at some point it will lose bite but try and find that spot.

Ok guys ran the little boat for the first time yesterday and found one major problem I think I know how to fix it but want y'all opinion. The jack plate I have is dragging in the water when. The boat planes out and just moving it up a little wont be enough so I think I am gonna have to cut part of the angle piece off the bottom. Does anyone have Any suggestions?? It sprays water up about two feet. Also Todd how much weight did u add up front of yours? Did you do this to help out when u are slowing down bc mine seems to want to sink when I let off the gas. Thanks levi
Mr. Demeanor
06-14-2011, 12:04 PM
You can make a skid planer to go under the jackplate. It will act like a trim tab helping the boat plane off and keep water from shooting up inside the jackplate. Do a search for "skid planer"
Evolution Marine
06-14-2011, 01:08 PM
Yes ours will sink if I get out. we put about 30 lbs fwd the move it back when running helps a little. And the higher you jack up the engine the better the hole shot.
JrCRXHF
06-14-2011, 02:18 PM
I put 12 gallons of fuel in the front of mine to help with the weight issue. I have not tried the new 75 on the back of the boat yet.

236365236364236363236362here are some pics of the skim planner my dad and myself built to keep the water from coming between the boat and jackplate.. I have since moved the motor up and the plate may not be needed anymore but will see. I ran the boat for the first time and didnt like the stoping part because the boat felt and looked like it was going to sink because of the weight of the motor. I added two small basketballs between the boat and jackplate at the very bottom and the difference is huge!!!! before raising the motor up the boat was runing 38mph dont know what its running now with it up. still have to prop it out right to, but its coming together a little at a time. If you have anymore sugesstions feel free to comment thanks.
Mr. Demeanor

You need less setback.
I think this would work much better than the jackplate you have, Make adjustments will be harder but the end result will be much better.

ok yeah i checked that out seems like it would work great, I guess there are so many options to go with, I wish it had trim because it seems like i can get more out of it if i could adjust when finally on plane. I guess will jusst have to keep working with it. I do like your idea though. thanks

06-20-2011, 12:22 PM
I plan on getting trim at some point in time. Let me know how close you move yours and how u did it. It's really not that bad without trim just have to get in the gas hard out of the hole and it dosent like slow speeds. What speed are u getting out of yours?

Hey man I haven't had time to run it anymore, I got the trim hooked up the boat seemed to start lifting up in the front like it's about to take off but as soon as that happens it blows out. I need a prop for it but can't find anyone who is willing to let me try out any to see what ones I need! Sure would like to make this thing work. I sm only getting like 39 out of mine. And I think the motor I have is hurting me on that too. Would like to get at least 50 out of it.
