Okay, so I'm looking at my merc manual and it states the following:
Low speed coils Resistance Ohms Scale Reading What I read
Between blue 3600-4200 R x 100 3.76
and red
blue/white and 3600-4200 R x 100 .07
red/white
High speed coils
red and black 90-140 R x 1 .06
red/white
and black 90-140 R x 1 .06
Just checking, but it seems to me that the stator needs replacement, correct?

Sorry, I tried making a chart, but it did not come out correctly.
I got 3.76 between blue and red (3600-4200)
I got .07 between blue/white and red/white (3600-4200)
between red and black, I got .06 (90-140)
between red/white and black, I got .06 (90-140)

Re: Testing 16 amp stator
All when disconnected. Between yellow leads, about 0.75 ohms. Open circuit to ground from either.
Red or red/w lead to ground is 125 to 175 ohms. Blue to red, or blue/w to red/w is 5400-6200 ohms.
Yellows will yield about 15v per 1000 rpm open circuit. (2000 rpm = 30 v, etc.)
CDI has even more information on the stator. It's possible, especially on the charge coils, to have a single turn short that kills the output without the resistance readings getting out of spec. DVA readings will find that.

i just went to the shop and dug out my 1994 2.5 high performance Mercury service manual and the spec your checking to are correct with Ohm meter set on RX x100 not 1000 will give the 3600 to 4200 range the 1000 gives the 3.76 reading and the obvious low reading of .7 IMHO there is no need to do a dva test if the stator will not pass the ohms test i would replace your stator if my memory serves me correct the Spec Bud has given you were for early model stator as far as the 5400-6200 ohm out goes anyway the rest im not seeing any difference red or r/white to ground 90-160

Thanks!!! I also tested the trigger and did not get a reading. In the manual it says if it reads infinity, then it should be replaced...I'm assuming no reading is infinity? Thanks again.

i have never tested a trigger that did not read at least on one pair ?? most on 2 pair i also know how important it is to have a good meter that has the correct ranges to read the resistance by . i had to buy a Mercury DVA to get all the right ranges most flukes or even the big snap on i have dont have all the correct ranges most are double of course Rx1 is on all of them but it makes it easier for me to have all of them:rolleyes:good luck
