View Full Version : Gear ratio question 3.0L sporty
1.75 vs 1.62 ,3.0L sportmaster. I know with running the 2, the prop size would be different but is there anything else. Like speed ,torque , etc.

the 1.75 will give you a better take off and mid and get you to your top RPMS faster because you will most likely use a smaller wheel say a 30/32 maybe a 34 if you have a light set up. the 1.62 will spin a bigger wheel a little slower out of the hole but still good mid and better top end you can spin a 32/35 and get a little more top end. this depends on what you have done to the motor and what your boat weights thanks

StrokerOMC where is the median where I could run 1.62 gears, and still achieve the same effects of a 1.75, but maybe creep out with a couple mph on top end. I run a 1.75 gear ratio on a 2100 Gambler with a 250 Pro XB with a 30p Bravo 1. If I went to a 1.62 could I spin a 26/28 Bravo 1 to the same speeds, and possibly higher?

yes you could still run the same 30 Bravo if you wanted, the hole shot would be a little slower and the mid would be close to the same and the top end would be several mph faster, most use the 1.62 for the bigger wheels to get top end, if you droped down to the 28 your hole shot would be closer to what you have now and your top end would be a few mph better just because of the diffences in the gears. if your main lake you fish has long running areas then i would go with the 30 and pass people in the run, if your main lake has alot of "No Wakes" and limits you to short runs then i would use the 28.
