We have raced and continue to race Stock 70 CES yamahas on V bottom hulls. Our motors normally run in the 6700 rpm range. It takes about 2 seasons of races for the ignition to fail. We run the 1986 to 1992 stock 70 hp ignition. We replace everything new and we OK for 2 years. The mod and tunnel racers are turning in the 8000 rpm range with the same ignition and most have problems with the ignition breaking down. I noticed on Ebay a 70 hp powerhead with a ignition similar to the 90 yamaha. I have not seen that model here in Canada. On U Tube there is a mod 70 yamaha and it has a different ignition on it. I would like to replace ours with something better and one that would last.
ANY SUGGESTIONS?
Thank-you

I was hoping some of our European racers would reply. OK, has anyone been able to eliminate the rev limiter on the new style ignition? Is it possible to use a 1986 to 1992 CDI box with the newer style stator and trigger? Can you used a 1988 to 1992 90 hp ignition on a 70 hp? I know I am not the only one than has run into this problem.
