Hey Guys,
I have a 2.5 200 steel sleeve, carburated, fishing motor and have made the following modifications.
35cc heads/ thin head gaskets
opened exhaust
intake boost port cuts
balanced and lighten'd pistons, wrist pins, con-rods
lapped sealing rings
lapped reed cages, boysean reeds (7 petal horizontal)
glass beaded intake
velocity stacks (polished)
oil inj. removed and plugged
stock fuel pump removed (Carter electric w/ fuel water seperator)
Bob's exhaust tuner
exhaust can pulled and relief holes drilled
limiter removed
Bob's nosecone
EGT gauges
cowling blanket removed and air intake opened
all internal mods done by JSRE
With these mod's can you guess I have been surfing Scream and Fly for a few hours, days!.......
I'm about to put this thing together and was wondering if anybody has a suggestion, pro's and con's or advice? Have I missed anything? I realize this motor will never compete with the big dogs but it is what I have to play/learn with for now. Thanks for everything!

I kick dig dog ass with motors like that. What about the rod slots and the port timing.

US1,
Thanks for the words of support! Jay at JSRE cut the rod slots to aim up at the boost ports (I called them boost port cuts). Is that what you mean by rod slots? I will see if I can post a picture later. The port timing has been left stock for now. Will porting realy wake this motor up without sacrificing too much on the bottom end? Would that be exhaust height for blowdown time or width for volume? Just starting to visualize the theory so go easy. The motor is going to be used on my heavy bassboat, I know,....bassboater, until I can get me one of those go fast, ultra light, cool looking, oh yeah baby kind of boats. Thanks!
Port timing is where all the big power is at. Its all the height the width is pretty much at the max stock. How much does the boat weight.

US1,
It is a 19' Champion, hull weight aproximately 1550lbs no gear. One of the boat dealers up here use to have one that would hit the mid 80's so I know this has potential to scoot for a bassboat.
Thanks
I have a 2200 lbs. Sterling tunnel with a modified 200 HP steel sleeve motor putting out 330 HP and running 105 MPH. Jay is no dummy, I think Jay is trying to keep all the torque in the motor. You do loose some torque raising the ports but to me the RPM HP and extended power band is well worth it.

2200lbs 105mph!....WOW,
I was under the impression with that horsepower to weight ratio it would be a hurdle to get to those speeds. If I were to port the motor, do I just play with prop sizes/pitch to get me into the powerband. Go down in pitch and spin it faster to gain back some of the low end torque? It would be great to get this boat into the 80's. It handles like a dream and can take the rough water if need be. Thanks for the education (2-stroke motors 101)

Hey Diamond, all you need to boost performance now is an Allison XB2002. ;)

CDAVE,
And that would also keep me from getting DQ'd at the fishing tournaments for an over horsepower'd boat. Myself I was leaning toward getting a Bullet for a go fast bassboat, though an Allison will just about always beat you to the fishin' hole. HHHMMMM decisions. I think Iwill keep the Champ for fishing and buy one of those STV river rockets for speed. A guy can not have enough boats! Can you mount a trolling motor and install livewells in a STV.....HAHAHA.

Talk to Talon, I think he can set you up in a fishin' tunnel.
My Sterling is a full tunnel that’s why the speed is so good. Keep in mind too that if you are still running the stock pistons and rod bearings you cant turn the big RPM. That may be another reason why Jay is keeping the ports low. Two years ago I got 2nd place in the Parker Enduro with steel sleeve 2.5 fishing motor. They can rock.

US1,
I lost a Cir-clip and damaged the #6 hole so I had a new sleeve put in and everything rebored to 3.515. Ordered a new set of Pro Marine oversize pistons sent them to Jay. Bearings and pistons, con-rods are all stock. What pistons should I run for turning hi rpms, Weisco? Bass fishing tends to have alot of "run and gun" activity so I think Jay was keeping this in mind when he cut my block. Sometimes I have to get the boat on plane in shallow water and can't have the boat squat for a long time or I will hit. As you know it is hard to have your cake and eat it too with two strokes. I have a line on another motor, it is a 95' Mariner 150 steel sleeve carb, not running but not completely blown either. The guy wants $600 for the whole motor. Would this block have the same potential? Thanks for the help!
That is a good motor to modify, but for max power you will need the change all 6 sleeves.
