Guy I have this 2.5 carb motor I had purchased from a engine builder on this site . Not to start any trouble with him or anyone else . I just want to know what should be a normal warranty time ? Reason I ask I have put about 2 or 3 hours on this power head and the cranks no good . This is what I have found so far is that the top of the crank is egg shaped and the bearings in the middle of the crank is broken in half . I just don't understand how this person sold this ? The crank has rust stains on it were someone's obviously cleaned it but why not put a new one in ? Instead of trying to clean this old crank ?
Now onto the things I need to repair my troubles were do I find the numbers on the crank so I can order a new one ? I know I'm no engine builder but I don't trust the person I got the motor from and if he do this bs , then I might as well give it a try myself .
Sorry for all the questions but this surprised me with the bs I found looking into this motor , but I guess that shows you do some research on engine builders before you pass up ya coins .
Thanks guys for letting me vent .

How did you purchase this?
As a new rebuild?
Bring your engine to him and he rebuilt?
Usually warranty details are between the buyer and the builder.
One would expect that itf it was their fault they would help
yours< depends on what you did.
The only real way one should expect a warranty is buy a new one
Did you follow any breakin procedure? Run the Motor at WOT for the 2-3 hrs?
Need more info

You are stand up for not bashing. You might want to post a bit more information.
Was the motor sold as is (no warranty implied)?
Was the motor sold with a warranty?
How was the motor described in the for sale thread? I.E. Compression, Leak Down #'s, year, hours on motor, fresh rebuild etc.
Did the Builder state that he did the work on the Motor?
Was the seller a supporting vendor, paying member etc.?
Most important!!!!!!! Have you contacted the seller about this issue before tearing into the motor and posting this thread?

I don't see how lack of a break in procedure, even if that were the case, would jack the bearings up on the crank. Sounds like it was put together with junk parts. Who was the builder? Pm it if you don't want to post

Patches we dont know the details of how this motor was sold
What did you pay< were you promised anything
Its entirely possible it was a running flip sold cheep, and not cracked open
Good things arent cheep and cheep things arent good.

Guys i did contact the engine builder to explain my woes . He wasn't that interested in my problems he was kind of rude in my opinion . So that is why I decided to tear it apart myself .
I did follow all instructions as far as break in was concerned . The boat never went over 4000 rpm in the first few runs cause the boat was not going into forward only reverse . So its not like i killed it with to many rpms . the first time I did get the motor to go into forward gear is when I had the problems .
I have had nothing but problem with this motor . I bought the motor as a whole motor cut down mid section and lwp bobs gear case . After the powerhead messed up i put my 2.4 powerhead on his midsection and after 2 runs the midsection was broken . Called engine builder back and same rude responses . So i bought another mid a 20" one , transferred my stuff over and then when you look the main bearing in the gear case was shot . So i had to get gear case rebuilt , So all in all this motor never even made cross break in period . It seem like he just threw all his old stuff in this motor and sent it on its way . All i wanted was a reliable motor and it seems like I got shafted .

Is this You?
Hey I have this 2.5 that has had some water intrusion . Looks like I need a new crank and some other odds and ends . Who can repair this for me ? I need it done some time soon . Thanks guys .
Hey guys i have a problem with my motor can't seem to get it started anymore . Thought it was bad gas but changed gas and still nothing .
Now what i did find was my flywheel had a lot of metal filings under the flywheel . Also had burnt plastic in that same area there are some wires that go up to the flywheel not sure of the names but that is loose it just pivots when the flywheel spins is is supposed to do that ? Also found a broken piece of metal in that area also . Can this be the reason why i am not starting ?
Guys I know this is going to be and easy fix for you experts .
When i go to choke my motor the lines don't get full of fuel . I feel the solenoid engaging but no fuel flows . How do i fix these minor issues ?
Hey guys I have 2.4 that runs great . Was wandering during the winter months can I change the pistons and rings myself or is this a chore for only the qualified ? And what would be the best pistons to put back inside ? Thanks .
I thought it could do with a little freshening up its a 1984 model . The powerhead was given to me so I'm not sure of the hrs .
Hey guys I have a pumping problem and I need help . I put my new lower unit on my boat dropped boat over and initially it was pumping . I drove and notice I had no water pressure but we had water flowing out oif the powerhead but once I stopped moving we had no water . So I changed the impellar to no avail I had the same results . So I burrowed a frinds lower unit that I knew worked , again same results first initial throw over its pumping shortly afterwards it stops pumping . What gives ??
I am running a 2.4/200hp . I was using the tanks on the sides but they are contaminated so I had no choice to use the 30 gallon tank it is in the stern of the boat .

Good find Brabender!!!
He has still failed to answer some very important questions.

He has been mentioned as a Builder??? I'd like to see the posted selling Thread on this motor.

If I am reading this right.... he was turning this motor at 3K - 4K with no load during break-in....... nice fast easy way to mess up some bearings IMO.......
"normal" warranty is 90 days on a rebuild..... curb warranty on a used item.......
He should of read the thread, " why you shouldnt lie on a forum " and all this could of been avoided.:nonod::nonod::nonod:
I guess we now have a seller beware caviot
keep them in line Barbender u da man and Merry Christmas friend
