Boat racing stadium to be built in Missouri
Posted on December 09, 2010 ShareThis Lucas Oil is constructing a new marine stadium in Wheatland, Mo., adjacent to its 3/8-mile clay track, called "The Diamond of Dirt Tracks."

Roughly rectangular, it is 3,800 feet long, 400 feet wide and 10 feet deep. When it is filled with more than 11 million gallons of water, it will stage boat drag racing competitions, beginning next July.

"This is truly the first purpose-built facility of its kind in the world," Lucas Oil operations director Mike Chastain said in a statement. "We're building this new facility from the ground up to be the perfect place to run drag boats with great views for the fans and to be as safe as possible for the competitors."

Water skiing, jet skis, sailing and even rowing - just about any sort of recreational activity or floating competition that can be done on water - is a possibility for this fully engineered lake, the company said.

The Wheatland waterway is slightly larger than Lake Lloyd at Daytona International Speedway and its site is already an aerial landmark in Missouri's Hickory County.

firebird also has skiing competition,u boats , some apba stuff, bob bondurant driving school, the dragstrip & several tracks on the complex. have been to the world finals & seen some indy cars on different tracks at the same time, very different sounding motors than say a fueler or blown alchol drag motor .many years ago it was out in the "desert", now urban sprawl has invaded the area.still hosts the best dragboat events in the country, imo, but hearing about these new sites being built is very exciting

The site at Wheatland also host a dirt track by Lucas, this will be a shared facility much like firebird in Arizona, the first race will be in the summer of 2011 sorry i don't have the exact date in front of me. Lucas Oil is spending a TON of $$$$ on this site and liquid quarter mile track.

i agree. firebird was a purpose built facility just for boat racing. the additional tracks and amphitheatre didnt come until long after the lake was built.
