i have a set of 5250 rods and have a couple questions.
1. are some better than others. if so how to tell the better one from the others?
2. when converting bottom guided to top guided is material taken from both small and big ends?
3. when people have them lightened how much can they take off after the conversion and lightening is done?
4. i need one to complete my set. should it be the same as the others or will it matter?
thanks and merry christmas

Tha older 5250 rods have holes in tha big end wher they are broke...Theze are said to be less sought after than tha ones witout tha holes...I have used both, and see NO differnce in longtivity....

Why lighten a set ov big rods??....Juss take off enuff to make them weigh close to tha same...U want lite, git small rods

All U need to make top guide pissons work wit tha big rods iz tha top guide washers and wrist pin bearings...I have done this several times and mota run quite well....

IMO, tha big rods help stuff tha block...but, also blocks sum ov tha rod slot...U weigh tha odds.......I personally like tha big rods in lower rpm mota's(8000 or less)...Juss my UNprofessional opinion!!

are you saying run the shorter bearings and not the longer ones? also wouldn't you have to cut the top guided pistons to fit all that stuff in there? just looked at a piston with the rod in it and it doesn't look like there is enough room. was just interested in how much weight people take out of the rods. lighter is always better when you can do it for not a lot of $$$. so last question does it hurt to have the top and bottom guided in the same hole, if doing what you said rex? thanks for repling.
