3.0L S/Master Water Pump Top Seal

Anybody ever see this before.............Just pulled my lower for the annual water pump replacement and noticed the top seal was about an inch up off the pump housing. When I put a new pump in it last year this time it was done to the book and the shaft had no lube of any kind on it that would cause the seal to raise up.........?????????? I have heard that some folks use super glue on the seal to shaft fit at assembly ???????

The seal is not SUPER critical since the impeller itself does most of the sealing against the housing. The 2.5 style unit just has a rubber slinger above it. The main reason for it at all is to prevent the pump from spraying water up the shaft. I suggest some flexable adhesive such as contact cement to hold it in place. Super glue becomes brittle as it dries.
