any ideas why my carbs would be leaking gas out of the front and onto the choke plate? I just got this motor so I'm not familar with it. it does have a mech. fuel pump and has had the oil injector removed.

Leaking needle and seat or if the engine has a primer valve(not a choke) it may be hung open or turned open( some have a screw in and out to open them) The valve might be wired wrong which would cause it to stay open and flood.

It does not have a primer valve it has a enrichener valve that does seem to be working. the gas is coming out of the middle carb and the primer bulb only stays pumped up when its disconnected from the engine. it does seem to pour out more when the engine is tilted up slightly. i'm assuming gas should never be coming out the front of the carb.

The gas is leaking out the vent tube cuz the needle and seat need attention. You may just have a small piece of something in the seat not allowing the needle to seal off fuel flow. Worse case scenario you need to replace assembly. Very easy carbs to work on.

I ran the engine again tonight and had no gas discharge from the front of the carbs. I did notice when I tried to start it this morning that gas didn't start to come out until hit the enrichener valve. the motor hadn't started before the gas started running out the front and then I figured that it probably started to flood by that point. I did notice yesterday and tonight that before it started it had backfired with a little flame out the exhaust.
