Fluid leaking through ram body, new unit, no previous repair attempted. How to properly prepare/repair? An " EXPERIENCED BUDDY " I know said he has fixed a few using JB-weld. Any advice?.

Your subject line say's porosity, I assume you're talking about the weld. Does the porosity look like a little crater at the end of the weld? If it does, you might get away with JB weld but odds are its going to continue to crack on you. What you have is crater crack. It happens when the weld is not shielded properly when it's ended.
If it the main portion of the weld is porous then it's a dirty weld and it will fail. If it's leaking now then it's already started. You say it's new so I'd send it back and get another one.
You might find a good TIG welder to patch it up for you.

It's brand new -NO WARRANTY- I"ll be making the repair - NOT a weld area or failure, but tiny pin holes in the cylinder body casting.

Why no warranty?

It"s not stolen -but to answer your question - some products, are highly specialized and produced in limited quantities for sale with no warranty. So I will repair it, with what product or method is still uncertain.

Welding is not an option for that type of repair. Looks like all you have is JB Weld or a similar product. I hope it works, I would just find a decent one at a wrecker and replace it.
