Sure looks like a T-bird but cool engine.

Did this time actually use the exhaust as thrust like a jet or did it have some sort of transmission? I'd hate to be behind one of these on the highway.

It was a turboshaft (like a helicopter) so yes it had a transmission. There is a car and an engine on disply at the Petersen Museum in L.A.

It was a regenerative engine where the exhaust went through a heat exchanger to heat the intake air to save fuel. The Lycoming AGT1500 in the M1A1 tank works the same way.

I have a smaller version of one of those Rover engines mentioned in the article at work, hooked to a dyno.

being Chrysler men they were enamored, and I herd of it for many years afterwards. the exhaust was directed straight onto the ground, grandpaw would hold his hand beside the cardoor and you could feel it coming out onto the ground. also there was an Elvis movie about a cross country race with one in it. and they said it could run on multiple fuels, even p-nut oil :D fun out

I remember in about 1967, 2 of us on motorcycles, Chicago suburbs, came to a stoplight, and this weird car in front us. Heard of the turbine, and sure as chit, its right in front of us:eek:

We had to pull too the outer sides of it, as that sucker REALLY tossed heat out the back! Yeah, looked a lot like a Tbird. He took off, we tried to follow a bit, but the heat was too damn much. :D
