So I have my motor torn apart, now the clamp bracket, tilt/trim and steering tube are painted black and put back together. The ? I have is will it be easier to put the mid, lower, and the clamp bracket back together then install on the boat, then reinstall the powerhead? Or reinstall all of it and then put it on the boat. It would seem easier to deal without the power head on it. I still need to paint the cowlings and the mid and lower, just looking ahead. Should be painted soon.

I put my clamp/swivel bracket on the boat, then mid, adaptor, then lower, then power head. It was a bit easier for me to do that because I was lifting the power head with a fork lift and handling everything else by hand.

I do mine just the opposite. Build on a stand then rig to boat. But then again, i can built it in an a/c'd shop at 75* while it's 120* in the summer. Saves heat stroke. Do whatever is easiest for you depending on your setup and available tools. It all comes out the same in the end, just like food.
