I just got a 235hp Evinrude powerhead in boxes. The guy I got it from said it was '78 or '79. There are no numbers on the welch plug. It came with a vacuum switch and the wiring schematic in the Clymers manual doesn't show this until '84. My question is does it make much difference what year factory manual I get for this thang? Any other way to identify year model?
Thanks & c/6

'77 and '78 were transition years and some parts will not exchange with later models. You might be able to tell with the head part numbers. Does it have chokes on the carbs?

All the 2.6 big bores from '80 on had the bubble back.

If it is 3 1/2" bore and has a factory installed bubble back then it is 78 or 79. 3 5/8" bores started in '80.

O-k
It's a 3 1/2" bore, no chokes, bubble-back, head part nrs. 332544 & 332545. Carbs are 1 1/4" part nr. 330134.

That sounds like a series of parts from different engines. The bubble back 3.5 bore engines both had chokes and larger carbs, heads are also not the originals.

That engine should have had a 1 3/8 carb. 1 1/4 are small. Most 150s run a 1 5/16. Sound like what ever someone had they threw in a box for you. Did you get a good deal on it? :D
