pic4=start of the final. note bill seebold in the bud light boat #7. i remember a big whatzit going on at this race because the merc boys weren't allowed to play with their T-4's. seebold still did well, naturally, even with the smaller motor. thats benny robertson in bob thompson's other "just add water" boat #57 starting from the pole position.

pic7=renato got around benny and started to pull it out a bit. thats jack leek (OMC racing chief) standing on the right in the foreground. got him in the shot by accident but it fits with racing. renato went on to score the win. figured the OMC crowd would like these photos from some past glory.

Boy I wish I could get some still shots of some of the boat that I have on 8mm sound movies from back then. Boy just thinking about the sound that the V8 makes just gave me goose bumps.!!!!

Flat Out

Still the "King of the Hill". According to Mark Rotharmel who raced for the OMC factory team. Nothing accelerated like a F-1 V8.
475 hp w/carbs and 510 hp w/ CFI so says Rob Yoeteff who co- owned and did the motor work on that boat.

That sprint Burgess of Benny's with its shallow tunnels went like hell till the water got lumpy. Brian I think your dad tried to race one of them a few times as well with the same results that Benny had in that Chattanooga race. A good EFI 3.5L motor could make 425-450hp in qualifying tune and 390-410 ready to race. Both the 3.5L carb motors and the 3.0L EFI were down 40-80 hp from these crankshaft horsepower numbers.

Nos,

I always loved the paint schemes of Rick Frost's #6 and Benny's #57 NAIU boats. That is way cool..... I saw them race on the Oh river later that year.

Great Pictures,
