Would having a water seperator installed be recommended on my boat for the Merc 125 be a good thing to do?? As you may be able to tell, from previous post I don't have a lot of knowledge about motors.

Thanks !!

Depends. I never use them on my personal boat unless it has a built in tank. If you have a built in tank, have had water problems where you keep the boat or an IO, then yes. It you use above floor or portable tanks and keep the boat garaged then no I wouldn't unless specifically recommended by the manufacturer of your motor.

This is a coincidence, I was going to post on this today.

I tested my spin on seperator last year and found it not to seperate anything, it might settle but doesn't seperate. Well I was looking in a catalog today and it occured to me that the filter may have been bad. Worn out, Kapoot.

One of the filters listed said it won't remove water if there is alcohol in the gas. I think there is a limit even for this and it would remove excess, free water.

I think that overall they do serve a function- even if they don't remove the water themselves. If you spin the filter off and find water you know that there is a further water problem at the very least. I don't know of another way to detect it. Except to drain some fuel off and let it settle.

Now I'm doing a search on the water molecule and if lucky I'll find the gas one too. The question is how big they are, can they be filtered?
