Can someone please tell me exactly what the process is for removing the oil injection system on a 1985 2.0 150 Merc. I know that block-off kits exist but what else needs to be done? Thanks.

I don't know for sure but from what I have heard there is a gear in there that you have to remove. That might be on the 2.4 or the 2.5 though. Not sure, but look for it when you take it off. At least it will go back to the top where someone else might answer it. :)

Yes there is a drive gear behind the oil pump that must come out..Then you need the plug that will cover the hole and it has kind of a stem on it the goes into the bushing in the block to keep it from coming loose..there is a part number for the plug kit maybe someone on here will have it..Also there is a fitting on the other side of the block that is used for pressurizing the oil tank in the boat..It will have to come out and be plugged with a pipe plug.

Just one thing no one else mentioned. Throw all the stuff you removed in the trash can, and remember to put oil in with the gas.

Rick, does the kit contain everything needed including the plug for the oil tank pressurization line? What price could I expect including shipping to Pasadena, MD 21122? Let me know if it's better for me to just call.
Quicksilver, are you sure? I thought when you removed the OI, that meant you didn't have to use oil at all anymore!?!?!? :D I know I run a fishing boat that doesn't get anywhere near 80, but gimme a little credit. :)
Thanks guys.

The price is $19.95 including shipping, but it does not include the plug for the other side of the motor. It does consist of the molded plug, the new shorter bolts, and the sealing o-ring. I have never done the injection removal myself, so I don't know for sure what you will need for that. We accept all major credit cards, but I don't recommend sending that info via email. Once you give us your CC and shipping info, if you wish, we can keep it on file, and you need only email for what ever you need from then on.

Rick,
Do you have a kit or something to remove the VRO from my neighbors 1995 Evencrude 90??
He wants to remove the injection from it, but I don't know much about JohnCrudes.

He can either retrofit an older non-VRO pump, or my favorite option, go electric. Plug off the crankcase pulse hole and you're good to go. Last one I did, I just tapped the pulse hole for an 1/8"NPT plug.

Just disconect the oil line and plug it off then unplug the warning horn harness and mix gas and oil...The VRO makes a decent fuel pump unless you go electric like rick says.
Also, you will have to remove the Oil Warning Module. Disconnect all of the wires from the module. One of the wires connects to the Starboard side temp alarm thermal switch, this wire must be left connected, it goes directly to the alarm horn.
Hey Rick, you sold me the plug last season, but I don't have the o-ring and the other parts. Can you hook me up with these items, I'll be blocking off next year.

The one we sold you was a Merc "kit" as it comes from Merc. We now handle a kit that comes with all needed items to make the switch on the pump side. I'll send you the rest of the stuff you need.
