View Full Version : Merc 125 ?
Does anyone know if there is a reed replacement kit to increase horse power for a 2002, 125hp 2-stroke motor?
Thank You,
Joe

I would be surprised if Boyesen were not making reeds for that engine, and TDR will make any reeds you want.
However, if you are into hot rodding, a Merc. V6 or a Yamaha V4 are better options.

Fiberglass or other composite reeds will not increase horsepower. They will give a little better throttle response but the real advantage is if you run the motor hard and a reed breaks, it will just pass through without damaging the motor. The factory steel reeds cause a lot of damage when they fail.

Mercury says you should not rev that motor more than 5200 RPM or it will break a crank. Although they seem very strong and I have never seen a crank broken, there is still no way to hop up that motor. But then I said the same thing when I first saw a V6 Merc Looper, but for different reasons. What a great motor! All the major work and design is there for high performance. Just my opinion.;)
