My 10" sony marine subs cones have disintegrated. I bought them in August 2009 and my boat has a full cover when not in use. Sony has refused to do anything about this because it has been 1 year and a month and they only give 1 year warranty. :nonod:

I will post pics over the weekend and if someone can inform me of a good 10" marine speaker that will last I thank you in advance..

My best bet is Polk although most of them are black. Sony is not that great in car audio anymore, but one year is really sad performance. I would expect a marine pyle sub to last longer than that. I always used car stereo stuff, but there is no salt water around here and these were larger boats or the area didn't get wet/splashed and didn't leave the boat in the water.

I wish someone would try the pyle sub tubes, can get them in 12s not sure about 15s...not sure how they would work but the tube is the lightest box there is unless you are running IB. They are cheap enough. We always ran IB subs and 7x10 speakers maybe 6x9 they worked the best in an open boat....for a normal minimal system.

Stay on them like a bad rash send your speaker to a sony dealer for a what happened and can they be repaired start a warranty claim never stop calling them till you get something. I had a 2500 dollar lcd tv do the same thing 2 months past the 1 year. I ended paying the extended warranty fee 200 or so & the replaced the tv because the fix would have been more money. Stay on them until they cave the are waiting for you to FOAD!! Talk to they manager on duty from sony usa the f-tards will try to get you peed-off. Have fun and don't get too frustrated. They will cave...

I have Pyle 6x9's and have been very happy for over a year now. The covers started turning yell so I painted them silver is my only issue.

I will call again but if I have to go through this once a year id rather just buy better speakers and get on with my life. I used to love Sony but now I will never buy a product from them again. This has been brought to there attention before. The Indian/Arab or whatever who I spoke with didnt have much to say when I started asking questions..

Ya but the way I look at it is get it replaced. Sell the new one if you dont like sony or get the dealer to keep the new sony for an upgrade. Thats what they want you to do walk away. Have some fun push it for 2 months or so once every week give them a " I'm still here call what is going on". Like I said have fun with it. Don't get frustrated. I know its not 2500 but the point is sony is passing off what use to be a good product and now its poo. I guess I have a little sony resentment. I have some friends in the audio market they told me sony is not what it use to be. Just my 1.9 cents.

I hear you,.. I called again a few minutes ago and they told me they will fix or replace them but theres a charge. I asked for a supervisor and one will be calling me Monday. If they do replace them, I will be selling them without a warranty for cheap.

I think I will give the Pyles a try for 116 shipped for two on ebay.

I had a pair of the first Bose 901s [$$$$$] and the roll around the cones went bad in just a couple of years. Bose said "Tough".

Man that s@#&$. I have have a set of 901's second generation with the equalizer for 20 years and no problems. I have a set of 701's that went bad. Contacted Bose. They said they were out of warrenty but. They sent me two boxes with all the correct packing material and a RAN. They repaired both of them for $125.00 return shipping included.

No place in a boat for a stereo anyway. Adds too much weight.

Ipod and earphones in the little boat.
3 years ago I put a Sony head unit in the glove box of my Fountain. Its not a "marine" radio but its stays dry and has worked great. Never skips even when getting a little air under her. Ipod plugs into the front with an adapter cord. Wired remote on the dash and wireless remote I leave on the back when we are a the sand bar.
I also installed Infinity Kappa 6.5" speakers. Two of them get a regular spraying with salt water and they have held up great. They have also been soaked in beer, margaritas, Caotain Morgan, fish blood, and someone has probably pissed on them.
I have no amp. Just the head unit and 4 6.5" kappas and the stereo sounds very good. Everyone assumes I have a lot more in it. Best sound and quality for the money IMO. JL's would be my upgrade choice.
