It is a Argocat 21 race boat ,buildt from 2 seater to 2 seats in front and a sofa.

Why did you take the Merc off and put a Yamaha on it? What kinds of speeds are you getting?

I bought it whitout engine. (first pic is from the previous owner)
Mercury's are difficult to get her in norway (racing series)
And yamaha has a god reputation of being reliable;)
I have reatch 70,1 knots with a turbo prop 28p on the gps.
I need more pitch , so i will try an 30p cleaver for the next season;)


Yes i know its an addiction:) I starded with an hydrolift t17, first year with yamaha 90 (that was boring), so i bought a yamaha 225 the year after:)
It reatch 65 knots.

Yes, the season is over her... We run from May through August.. Sad but true..
A few years ago I was out in April, then I had to push away ice on the water to get the boat launched:)

That seems very cheap........$305.00 USD for the entire set up? There is only one US manufacturer that still offers a combination hand/foot throttle. Thanks for the conversion, I wish I could use google t to translate the entire thread and then buy one!

Hydrolift how are things with the Argo? It's in the middle of the summer season over here now and we would like to hear some news and results :)
You know, I agree with some of the guys in this thread; Ditch the large and heavy Jappo motor and replace it with a Merc screamer (i.e. 2.5 EFI Offshore)!!!
Those are easily accessible in Norway and you can get a decent one for about 9-12,000 USD I guess.
You should be able to obtain 100-110MPH in your Argo with a 2.5 EFI I think.
I previously (many years ago) raced Argo 21 and 23 in the Norwegian Class 3C 2L offshore series using the Merc Hi-Perf XR2 Offshore(200+HP) motors - same as the SST 120 powerhead. Excellent cats with a lot of speed potential.
In my 23 foot Argo I gained a top GPS speed of 95.5MPH in salt water in excellent sea/weather conditions - I really love those Merc screamers!!!
It's a pitty they are now replaced with the 4 stroke 200XS models :nonod:

Now I am rigging a Swedish type Lustcat 18 foot with a XR2 motor just to get some speed back into my blood...
This is a cat very similar to the Finnish Argo with stepped buttom and very light, rigged for Offshore racing in a 2 seat tandem set-up.
There are a lot of work still untill (shopping the last parts here in the forum now :D) this project is finished but I hope to get it tested during August and my goal is 100MPH+ with a 30 or 32" cleaver.

I have today, replaced the hydraulic acuator on my cmc power lift.
And i'm searching the internet for an 30" clever prop..
Scream out if somebody has one lying around:thumbsup:

Yes the 2.5 EFI screamer in the link looks great and the seller states it is in "as new" condition, but asking 23,000 USD I think is just a "dream thought" :icon_bs:
You can get a decent one for half of what he is asking...

I am also looking around for a couple of cleavers and guess I also will start with a 30 or 32" getting 7-7,500 rpm's out of the fresh XR2, but time will show :cool:

Right now it goes really bad compared to what it has done.:nonod: has taken away the rubber lip behind, so I can not get the lift I need ... But it is much more comfortable to ride:o I get about 70-75 mph now .. But with a cleaver, I hope to get some more speed as it lifts itself ..:) Lies at 6200rpm now with 28 turbo lightning. Maximum speed measured with gps is 81.5 mph (rev limiter) How will it work with a cleaver without exhaust boss on a Yamaha with the exhaust into the propeller?

Awesome job you have done with the Argo! Looking very good. Nice paint job also!

Yes the rubber lip makes the "little extra" air pressure and lift needed in the tunnel to get some of those last MPH's :) But pleasure boating is not just about top speed right? You'll get enough air through the hair in 75MPH also ;)

I believe a cleaver without the exhaust hub will work as good on the Yamaha as on any other outboard...
I do not know this very well but have heard that you will loose a bit "steering" or "in water lenght" (when lifting the motor high on the transom) as the gearcase then will be like a bit shorter but I have always driven cats with this type of cleavers, using a torq tamer or rebuilding the skeg a bit.

A cleaver will give you better top end speed and is a better choice for a light cat as the Argo is. It will give you "straight forward thrust" and a little rear end lift I believe.
The Turbo Lightning gives you bow lift and that is not what you will be asking for in a Argo if I'm right ;)
