I want to replace the inline fuel filter that sits under the clamshell cover on my fishing motor (1987 175HP Merc). Don't have a dealer convenient to me. Is there another (non-merc) alternative filter available or is there a good on-line source for the filter. I know you guys have the answers, you always do! Joey:thumbsup:

if you are speaking of the white screen assembly, it can be replaced with most any comparable inline filter but it is also washable. Backflush it and most any contaminates will wash out the back. Not the best choice but it is a choice. DO NOT USE ONE OF THE GLASS AND CHROME SEE THROUGH MODELS!!!!!!

Thanks for the reply. I ended up ordering a replacement on-line. Hopefully be here soon. I found out the hard way about the glass/chrome filters. I put one (Perko brand, I think?) on my other boat, Mirage. When I pulled it out and fired it up this year it sprayed gas all over from the filter. End had worked loose. Never could get it screwed back together tightly. Threw it away. Killed a big patch of grass. Just glad I didn't have a spark back there while I was cranking. Didn't realize it was spraying right away as it was hidden from view by the fairing on the boat. Joey
