Hi,
The old style 0580821 or 0581609 or 0581611 OMC coil: should I see continuity between the black wire and the frame of the coil?

The one that works on the engine now does, the brand new sierra 18-5194 does NOT and it gives no spark.

Anyone have a mid-70's 3 bolt pattern coil (small diameter black ground wire and orange wire w/ no Molex, just a ring connector on each wire) that's good to test?

I'll test the new one I ordered in for tomorrow to see and I'll let you know!

Bill.

Normally no..... those wiers usually go to the windings and if you get any continuity from either of the wire to the frame (with both wires disconnected), then there is a short in the windings to ground.

Yup, the new Sierra coil did the same so I ordered a BRP coil.
