View Full Version : Mercury Tech porting reed blocks on a 59ci 60hp merc
hi guys i was wondering if anyone has tried porting the reed blocks on 59ci merc?
i was thinking of giving it a go.
i was thinking of removing the brige between the ports ,and instead of running the 3 petals, running just one big reed valve .
anyone tried this, do you reckon it would work?
anyone tried any other ideas?
thanks for any input

Try to get in touch with Darrel Petifer over on ByUBoyz. Hes played with those things quite a bit in the pastand has a few dos and donts. At least maybe he can save you some time and parts on the dont's.

Been there done that , its not worth the time to change unless you do lots of other things. If your leaving motor stock, buy a set of reeds from Chris , and have fun. If you not , send me a message, I can help you out. Jeff
i ordered some reeds from chris last week.
the motor is pretty much stock ,it has some mild intake work ,just tidying up the casting marks on the intake ports.i've also moddified the exhaust,to be pretty much a full above prop exhaust.
the reason i was thinking about it is.i used to run boysen reeds in it a few years back and they eventualy let go after getting it hot a couple of times and it burned little holes in the reeds.the motor was hammering with the reeds in this state, but eventualy it was near impossible to start so i had the reeds replaced back to the metal standard ones.i reckon it would have lost a couple of hundred rpm up top.so i was thinking getting a bit more flow in there would help?
thanks for your replies
cheers,jake
