Nice boat!! That's a merc 200 on it? And it is a 380? I don't know alot about them yet but I'm learning more every day. Do you know his set up, motor height, set back, and the weight of the rig?

Thanks for the reply,

the boat is 18` and probably weighs 600lbs its really lite it might even be lighter him and his dad took out some of the flooring to try and litein it up,it has a 6" hydrolic setback low water pick up so the foot is about an 1 inch to maybe 1 1/2 above bottom of boat in other words the bottom of the boat is level with the center line of the prop shaft.the motor is a 200 carburated with boyseen reeds, heads shaved to 10ths,lite weight flywheel, the thermostats were replaced with the washer style and it has an aftermarket tuner with 6 1/2 inch holes drilled in the bottom of the mid and it has an aftermarket 280 cowl looks and sounds nasty!! it runs 91 92 with two people and to be honest thats about the top end its really hard to handle at that speed. ooh he also has hydo seastar steering and a hot foot ill try and get some more pics. my other buddy has the same boat but just had it painted i don`t have any pics of that one maybe he has some he can post on here.

1 1/4" above the pad - 6 inch plate - all the weight in the back of the boat (pumps batt tank) - big lab cleaver for topend. Cleavers work well because the laser needs stern lift to flatten it out for topend running. Et's and choppers are fun but get real dangerous on the big end. All of what I've said is for the LTV, but I'm sure holds true to a 380 (or your new boat for that matter) because the center pad on a ltv is the same as your pad. We had LaserEd's to 117 on gps - probably wouldve went faster, but you're already 20mph faster than thing thing was ever supposed to go - after that is when it became a drag boat. Mine was a heavy sled, but still went 94 on gps with my xr6 150.

Rex you know the boat I got hell it used to be yours. How you think it will run with a 175 ho etec? Not sure that's what I will keep on it but I'm going to run it till the new motor is done.

Nice pics every one and thanks for the info. I'm not at all new to this just new to lasers. I'm More interested in draggin not top end but I'm not scared either.

Thanks again every one keep it coming

Seeing how your boat is a shortened 380 and super light ta boot i ain`t sure but the e-tech mite be a little heavy. If you could lighten it up some the bote would handle better. All the 380`s i had anything to do with bounced in the mid range with to much set back or to heavy a motor.

Bull iz rite about tha weight on tha azz end ov a Laser.....They'z a weight box in tha front ov yo bote, use it!!.....Once ya git sum seet time, U will find that a Laser iz one ov tha most forgive'in boats out ther!!!...Don't git me wrong, it will buss ya azz if ya git careless, but it will take a lot, and wind up on it's bottom wher it belongz....Yea, it will "HOOK", but they all will, but ya damm neer gotta try and make it do it...Thoze boats wuz made to TURN, and they do a damm good job ov it, but it purdy much only doez it when ya want it to, or Yo set up iz miles off!!

PM me ya number and I'll call ya...I kan't seem ta find tha number I had:thumbsup:

I have not driven a V bottom that can turn like the Laser. The only thing that I have driven that goes around a bouy like a 380 is a tunnel.

I have an 82 380 Ray. Right now sitting without powerhead. Ive had it for almost 20 years now. It is about a 500# hull, laid up as race boat but heavy enough for the mod vp class it was originally raced in (right before the tunnels all took over). Since i have had it, i have ran a Johnson 3.0 looper 225, nerc 175, merc 200, heavily modded 2.5, lightly modded 2.5, and a stock 260. the boat ran 68moh with 175hp, about 80 with 200hp, almost 100 with heavily modded 2.5, and never really saw top speed with the 260. that boat is the most perfect ski / race boat i know of (with a possible exception of teh hydrostream virage if you can find one of the 50 that were made). I love Lasers, and love mine!!! Jeff

low to mid 70s depending on slip. With 10% it's 74, that's a very reasonable expectation of speed with that combo if everything's right.

Like this one.......It would touch 90 (SDBA/Texas Twisters) on a good day back in tha eighties. One of tha few Laser EFI Bridgeport's..........Still ALL ORGINAL and solid as for as tha hull goes. Tha older gent I sold it to made a genuine "fishin'" boat out of it..........

Tryin' ta buy it back but he ain't hearin' it!

I have an old Race boat...It's a 380Ray - center steer, no floor, Kevlar hull. I've been 'rebuilding' it for about 3yrs now.. longest rebuild ever! I hope to have it running again this summer. It ran 82-85mph with a 2.0L 150hp, with BP EFI bolted on the front and 105lb compression!

I'll post Pictures later on... There are a bunch of them on here from the Rumble on the River (2007-8 time frame I think)
