Posting this for a friend that lost his log in information. Recently re-powered a 20" Stoker Sport Tunnel with a 3.0 225 Merc. Has a Bob's low water pikc up/nosecone, approx 6-7 inches of set-back. Any ball park numbers of where the propshaft height should be? Hopefully Racer can shed some light on this. Thanks in advance.

racer suggests no more than 5'' setback, trimtabs up 1/4 turn, propshaft up 1/4'', if I remember correctly, that's pretty much how I have mine set up!might be a little different because he has a 3.0 liter,507 lb vs 431 lb.[which was why I didn't go with the 3.0 liter engine!]Alan said there were set up issues.''3.0 liter doesn't like the 3.0 liter sportmaster gear case''Alan Stoker.

That might be a bit too much set back, but mine runs well with 6" and a 375# engine. Is he using a hydraulic jack plate? I found that 1/2" below was the best compromise with a manual jack plate, but it handled better 1/4" above. What prop is he running? The prop and the set-up need to work together.

Guys,
So far here's what I know for sure. Motor is about 6 inches of total set back. Running a Hyd. jack (CMC), all the way up the prop shaft is dead even to the pad. It's a 1997 3.0 225 Merc with a Bob's nosecone and low eater pick ups. He was running a 2.4 Bridgeport with a 2 hold CLE before. Due to the limited RPM range now, his 26" Cleaver was crappy, so he's toying with my 28" Tillman / ET style for now. The 3.0 has a different electrical system so we're trying to get the tach to function correctly. Racer knows the boat, not sure if he's seen this posting.

that should be a good starting point but as posted by others a little more height may be desired...i cant run mine above the pad untill i run the fuel out of the boat and get it light...if i do the boat stays wet and i just slip away...i know racer recommends a 26 et to the merc guys (im not sure if thats just for the 2.4/2.5 crowd or not) and my favorite prop on mine is a 27 srx but you know how the prop game go's...taker easy

1/4 turn down from level on the turn buckles with that weight lower unit combo and shaft 1/2 inch above but not raised to that height till speed is over 75. Round ear props will work best and as mentioned keep the set back down to 5 or less if he wants the best all around performance.

Thank you Al. This is Mr. Surmay's original boat that had the Bridgeport
