I was just wondering is it possible to repanint a boat with metalflake and still have depth in the gelcoat like one of the earlier hydrostreams

It can be done to look just as good as the original. With the right materials and a experienced painter, metalflake is no big deal. Shoot on the flake mixed with clear. Cover this with several coats of clear. Let this cure for a week or so. Sand down to a smooth finish and re-clear with a few more coats. Use 1500 grit sandpaper to perfect it, and buff it out to a glossy finish. I have done several flake jobs and the paint will hold up better than the original gellcote finish...
