The old 98-200 JohnRude starts up fine. After a make a long run, say 20-30 minutes, it will not start again. Last time, after clearing the carbs, I thought it was going to fire, then the bendix in the started crapped out.
The carbs seem to be fine. It also appearred that I lost about 300-400 rpms. I put the 225 carbs on, shaved the heads a little, and fattened up the air bleeds, prior to any problems. All seemed fine except it didn't want to idle, I could live with that. Then it sat up for about 3-4 months before my problems began. Any help out there?

Just kidding AJ. Hope all is well out there.
Have you checked the basics??

Do you have good fire to the plugs?
Are you sure that you are getting fuel?
Have you tried to start it on WD-40 or something? If you do and it fires... You know it's fuel related.

I'm thinking maybe it's flooded. Getting too much fuel. Once it's warmed up it will not start......I just had a new power pack put on a couple of months ago. Like I said, I thought it was going to start, before the starter, which was only 3 months old, crapped out.
I pumped the hot foot a couple of times to clear it out and I thought it was going to star. The starter crapped out & depression set in..............................

Flooded. If it tried to kick you know there was some spark.

Check the spark to make sure it's strong. Are you using the stock fuel pumps or an electric?

Are they the gapless plugs?

Stock fuel pump, stock spark plugs. What I don't understand is why it runs O.K. (minus 300-400 rpms) when it's started cold and run, then after it sits 30 minutes or more, it will not start. After I take it home and wait a while, it'll start everytime I hit the key.

Run it for a while and then head back to the dock and shut it off.

Pop the cowl and put the timing light on each plug wire and see if you're getting spark at each wire while cranking it. Sounds like a heat effected electrical problem. Maybe a bad coil that is only bad when hot.

The loss off 400rpm might be due to the carbs being rich from your mods, but you'll have to check plugs, piston tops, EGTS to be sure you rejet in the right direction.
