For the past couple of years my 225x ProMax has had a slight problem with the engine smoking when started and at idle. This is only when the engine is warm, not on a cold start. I have always written it off to a week fuel injector? The past month the problem has gotten very bad. It was usualy only at start up with a warm engine, This is still when it is the worst, but will now be a problem after running and then slowing down to an idle, (for example when water skiing) or a cold start. My Idle down tube is missing at the top of my exaust tube, but I don't think this is the cause of the smoke? (Can this hole be covered without causing Idle issues???) Exaust Gasket was checked and resealed last year, all bolts are tight, engine mount bolts, etc.
Any Ideas?

Just curious if your running Mercury 2 cycle oils I'd try running Penn. blends they smoke allot less than Mercury oils..
Just a suggestion without getting "mechanical" with the engine..

I am using the recomended Mercury Plus Oil. I buy it in bulk and have found out that the dealer is using used witerizing antifreeze bottles, that are not cleaned. Therefore there could be a small amount of antifreeze still in the bottle? What will that do?
What other oils do people use in this engine? Spacific brands, type, Synthetic, etc?

NO 100% syn. oils in any steel sleeved engines IMO.. Many Many people have had great luck with the Penn. blends , thats is my choice in a steel sleeved engine...
