How does merc measure the ride guide cables? A 13ft on a rack system is measured??

trying to figure out what length i might need for my boat. I don't have any cables in front of me right now to measure and see what's printed on them. A cable for a RACK system, if marked as 13 ft....where is that measurement taken from??? I know a good bit of the cable is inside the rack...... I don't have a lot of extra room in this little boat to get one that's too long. thanks

You can probably disregard that old cable type measurement, hasn't been used since 1980.
