View Full Version : CMC jackplate, parts??? Brush pack

Have a CMC jackplate that seems to have gotten hot at one point, the brush pack on the motor melted inside and the brushes no longer sit true and motor wont run.
Contacted CMC and they will only supply a whole new actuator, pump and motor asy. kind of ridiculous when all it needs is a set of brushes and an end cap!

Anyway, my question is has anyone come across this before, did they find any way around this, I would imagine this is a part that is manufactured somewhere in the US for electric motors and probably not exclusive to CMC jackplates.

Any ideas?

Thanks, Alan

Is this the plate with the pump on the side? If it is what i did was get the local hydrallic shop to make me two lines (6ft) with the correct ends for the ram and a merc external pump. The pump is now inside the boat and works well.

I did that very same thing too. But I ordered tubing from Mcmaster Carr and fitting ends and hard piped mine. Keeping that pump in the boat and out of the H2O makes a big difference.

If you know what kind of motor it is you can do a search for it and usualy find parts, there are lots of that stuff out there.

No unfortunitely its the pump, motor & ram together, all in the same unit. Left it into a motor rewind place, see if they can make up something. I even looked at moving the pump into the boat but dont see how without some major engineering.

Its a fairly simple piece, cant understand why CMC dont offer spare parts for their products????

I know what you mean. There's no reason they couldn't unless it's the lawers idea to prevent liability issues. They make a great unit. The boat I have now came with the older unit and they tried their best to sell me a new one. I just set it up as a manual until I could track down a pump and fittings. Then they were kind enough to sell me a new cylinder for the old one and I took it the rest of the way myself.

I have the one with the pump and cylinder all in one.Im gonna try using a mercury power trim unit when mine goes out.I have a couple of them laying around.off 40 to 60 horsepower motors im guessing.Small, self contained, looks like a fairly easy conversion.

are you talking about the style that has the motor and the pump in a Square chunk of alum between the side pieces if so i have one also thats very weak in the motor but looks almost brand new im going to take the motor out of the block of alum and take it to a starter gen shop and see what happens CMC wants to sell the whole thing as a unit ?????

because you wont buy a new one if you can fix it!!! How old is the one you have...? If you fix it how long will it last ??? See my point ....went round and round with this for my 10 yo unit and it cost an arm and a leg to fix but ill be damned if i was gonna buy another one when all that was wrong with this one was an electric motor!!!! Cmc customer service sucks.

Yes I know about the great customer service they have but did you have the motor repaired or did you buy a new unit. Also how much did it cost you either way.
