Wondering if anyone has any ideas of what we're up against before we tear into the motor. My dad's 1971 Merc 650 (four cylinder) has white exhaust goobers coming out around the lower part of the cowl pan, under the stripe that says "65 H.P." A couple of years ago I noticed some water spraying out around the upper mounts. Obviously there is some water mixing with exhaust and leaking out somewhere, but does anyone have any ideas on if this is a common problem and where the leak would be? I'm thinking the base gasket, but I'm also wondering if maybe the mounts wallowed out the cavity where they mount. Do these motors use a two piece adapter like the V-6s, or is it a different setup? Never had the motor apart or had the lower cowl off for that matter. Motor runs perfect but getting concerned about the leak.
Bigger question is, can you still get mounts and a base gasket for this motor?
