is that just a priming pump? can i replace it with a ball?

goes from tank, to the pump, to fuel filter, then to the engine (V8 johnson)

Looks like an electric fuel pump of some type.

I used to have an old OMC that had a priming fuel pump like that.... You can replace w a bulb or a better fuel pump for added protection against leaning one out.

The OMC V-8 outboards came with that pump at the beginning. They didn't reccomend a primer ball because they were afraid of restrictions.
