HEY ALL,
quick question, I have a 460 marine getting built for my jet boat, for now I also have a 76 thunderbird BBF 460 engine I'am thinking of throwing in the sleekcraft for now, I can change the intake, cam and carb and hardin marine parts wet exhaust ETC , but I haven't bought an oil pan yet,my friend has a brand new rear sump ford racing pan for a steal of a deal
the question is front sump or rear?
I know i should spent the cash on a nice marine pan but...........I gots to pay the engine builder first!214331

Your limited in depth in the jet boat application, usually 7.5 - 8.0 inches is all the deeper you can go. Pick-ups come with the pans as well, for each application.

Cange the timing chain, the 76 is a smog motor, cam timing is retarded up to 15* either a performance after market, or early 70 stock timing chain will get you some decent HP increase.

Rear sump for jet boats......

Exhaust.. if running logs, no gaskets, use ultra temp silicone. ?

Headers use the best fit for your header.

My sump is in the front, however the engine is turned around, now the sump is in the rear. I run a remote filter and oil cooler. I also run a oil cccumulator, it keeps the flow steady, don't have to worry about oil pressure loss. So far so good.

I ran a stock front sump pan for years on a 429 with no probs, just keep her flat.

It all has to do with application. If you're running a pretty much stock 460 with low HP, the front sump pan will probably work just fine for you. It you are thinking about ever making any serious HP, I'd install a good rear sump pan and pick up. The accumulator does help a lot too. Duane HTP
