Hey Sam,I'm interested in trying to finally make a trip to Blarney.I've only had my 1/4 Master 10 years and don't have any idea what it weights,probably heavier than a DR-20.Can I throw all the lead out and run Pro Gas??? I heard a certain E-tec got 1/2 tracked by a Merc in 700 ft.!!!!:D

Its easy to get half tracked when your waving your hands to re-lineup when the starterman still decides to hit the green light....pretty ****ty if your ask me......Just happens it was an Etec so someone has to say something.

Let's see some video of this supposed "half track" I am not gonna cut on smokin Joe or any of the other drivers, but if you are gonna brag about winning, then at least let it be a fair race.
And let's be perfectly clear, if mercury wins this class this season, it is due to a very unfortunate incident. I hope Mr. Mason is doing well and we see him back in action again.
And Yes, smokin' Joe's stream is badass :cheers:

on plane start? Yea right. 1180 lb boat? Your 0 for 2 so far. The Triad idles at 1100 and comes to the line flat and leaves flat. No popping the bow. The boat is being weighed this weekend and will be proper weight next Thurs. Bob said to bring kleenex and visene and hope it doesn't turn more than 9500 rpms like it did this week. There is alot left.

Back to the original post....Mike, if you want to come up and run, you have to come on up quick. They cut it down to only the top 4 boats around the end of August. Let me know ahead of time and we can get you weighed.
As for Bob's boat....it does need to be weighed and it's Bob's responsibility to get with me to get it weighed - which he and Nick Kaye haven't done. He wasn't running any weight so clearly it's most likely too light and therefore I doubt the results from this past Thursday will stand. I've not been available the last couple of weeks with my folks being in town so I'll get to it this week and he'll have the proper weight in it. That being said, Joe was pretty dang close to him.

I've got a 150 eTec we can put on your boat. We'll have to reinforce your transom so the torque doesn't cause the motor to end up on the deck, but you know eTecs give you the winning edge Richaroo.

Don't we race at Blarney Island or is it now Whiny Island? I can't believe this one run has caused so much smack being talked. I own the boat and I have a right to comment.
First of all, Blarney is supposed to be fun, not the nationals. If it wa, then every boat gets weighed going in and out. How do any of you (us) know really what the other guys weighs on any given night. Kickin' a bag just ain't going to cut it.
Second, the only topic should be how much lighter the DR20 was and it's valid. But, the on plane BS is not a matter of weight, it's a matter of WAIT. WAIT and see if a red light is thrown. I watched the run and even if the E-Tec got out of the ditch first, it wouldn't have made a difference in the outcome.
Third. The reason we didn't have the weight in the boat is that we didn't even think we would be a contender! We knew going in that the motor hit a wall at 9500 and just wanted to get some seat time for Bob and see how BAD we were going to lose by. The win was TOTALLY unexpected! In fact, before the eyebrow drag that we built for the STV RR ate a piston, it was kicking the DR20 out of the hole and was running a 24 besides. There are witnesses to those runs on Wind Lake.
Fourth: Now people are going to bring "their other boat". Well, it's about time! I've been bringing two and sometimes three of my boats to help fill the class. How about you guys? What have you done to even out the field and support our racing? NOTHING in my book. I even tried to get a rookie established in the River Rocket to help out Lake Racer, but it didn't work out. It costs me more to just haul the boats and fuel them adding in the registration costs than the $200.00 you could win. Now I know why there isn't a "Sportsman Class" at Blarney. In fact, the word "CLASS" sure doesn't seen to be applied to many drivers now days.
Fifth: What the "f"? If people say they have faster boats and want to win so bad, then why are they coming with their slower boat? What's wrong with that picture. Besides, a boat running 1/4 mile, leaving on a running start rope race is set-up different than for Blarney. I'm not so sure that it would be any faster, but if it is, then why not prove it. If winning Blarney is all so important, Joe, you wouldn't be giving up Blarney to become champ in your other racing. I have the utmost of respect for you, but I truly thought that you were doing Blarney as practice for where your heart truly lies. I apparently am wrong. Geez!
Sixth: Everyone running in Pro Gas is actually a LOSER! Why? Because there isn't a boat out there that would have caught Bruce Mason in points if he didn't blow over! PERIOD! And who by the way, does have class.
Seventh: The DR20 isn't as light as it once was. It has been totally reinforced on both sides by adding Okumi Ply and glass over all the bracing and a ADDING a brace between the two that left a void along side of the capsule. The difference in rigidity is unbelieveable. Plus, the light midsection and trick lower are not on the boat. It has an OLD style 12" mid with a restrictive exhaust flow. The boat also has had both top panels of the sponsonson from front to back re-glassed onto the deck and has Bondo and two layers of primer plus paint added to the original weight. We'll see how much it weighs tonight when Sam comes over.
My last comment is that if I had my way, there would be no weight limits in Pro Gas class at Blarney. Why do we spend thousands of dollars more to have light weight hulls built to fill them up with lead shot? It NUTS!! I can definetely see it in Lake Racer to even out the field, but when you step into the top class, it should be that you are racing with and against the best power to weight and set-up you can bring it on with. I don't agree that I have to LOWER my boats performance to the least capable competitor. If you can't stand the heat, get out of the kitchen.
I gotta run, but I'm not done on this.

Brent;
Hang in there and let's see what happens. I envy the looks of your rig and your determination. I do not consider your remarks as whining, more as frustration. You are giving 110% every week. I remember whining when I first came to Blarney because I thought that I wasn't given the win when it was close because I was a newbee. John told me off! How untrue I found my original perception to be.
You should know that when your out there running, the talk on the docks is that ..." Wow, that E-Tec is really coming on!" or "Hey, Brent's up..This should be good!" It's alot harder to win races pioneering new technology than running light on weight. Sam should be showing up soon to weigh the DR20 and I'll post it, No, I'll ask Sam to post it. If anything on weight needs discussion, maybe it is the Mean Green Machines need a weight break right now? Well, in your case, it should be the "Mean WHITE machine!"
See you next week. I'll be boatless.

unlimited that is the class Mr.Mason should be in in the first place :iagree:Nick you are right i think everyone should stop winning a bring there stuff out to the island but the fun part is now when you win you must be cheating and the main reason alot of people don't come out is $$$$ wow a $100 to win lake racer and $200 for pro gas that $ hasn't change in what 20 years it's sad because it's a killer place to go perfect example this weekend is Kosh there are alot of guys going there and not coming here:o also because of the all the bs

I don't believe it. While I'm writing you a nice and heartfelt response, you're still fuming! And trust me, I am sure that we weren't the only one's running light last Thursday. We might be the only ones honest.

NEWS FLASH!! BIG BEND, WISCONSIN!! For immediate release:
Sam Baker weighs the DR20 and Joe P is there to witness results. Boat weighs 1326 with Bob and gear. That's with an empty tank and we pumped out 36 lbs of fuel. So the DR20 was 1326 + 36 lbs = 1362. 38 pounds light. That's equal to the BS being thrown around about the hull being super light. Let's all knock it off and we'll run the weights and please send us your prayers that we find why the motor hits the wall at 9500 RPM.
I'm for deleting this entire post. Anyone else?

RacerX;
Quotes"...where are yo gonna put the weight,seem like the spot was just in back of the canopy? "
I think I should put it in Bob A's shorts, right in front of the canopy wall. He's kinda sleeker in build than you and I. I don't know how many balls are in a bag of shot, but certainly we could brag that Albee has more "BALLS" than anyone in the class!?!?
Jeff. You gotta join us guys going to Gulfport. It's awesome, cheap to race multiple classes and the nightlife is whatever you want to make of it. The DSRA guys are some of the best in racing, but also will do anything to help a fellow racer and are just plain hospitable. The price to race a class is like $30.00 AND joining DSRA is the price of a tank of fuel in your truck. Their Outlaw class is the best and is getting tougher because of the racers who enter it. Everybody is gunn'in for Mathew Caldwell, but what's new in the last two years? Raptor re-rigged his DR20 with new power and came in second on his first time out in outlaw. Impressive, and he did it with half an E-Tec. Galen was instrumental in the achievement. Sorry Triad Wally L., but it looks like the DR20's rebuilt after a mishap are faster than out of the mold! Well, except for Dixon's remarkable performances. Throw T-Rex, Garrell and Dave Busch into the fray and it's a hell of a lot of fun and there's no hard feeling after the race. Just a lot of bar smack teasing of each other with 2 bands playing in the background.
ModVP, a good hull set-up and reaction time can overcome that weight disadvantage. Besides, if it's windy or choppy, you have the advantage. And how many times do we have to tell ya to take out the Porta-Potty and at least empty it!
