car engine bote question

buddy just got a ib/ob POS the motor is gone, pre vortec 350, can he put a non marine engine in it.

Yes you can. Make sure you use all the electrics, carb, fuel pump and distributor off the marine engine. Use all the cooling system components including the water pump and change the frost plugs to brass ones.

As for the engine internals you have to ask someone that knows car boat engines. I do know that way less timing advance is used in boat engine.

The boat engine uses stainless steel head gaskets, a different cam for the right torque curve and brass freeze plugs. The electrics are also "marinized". The fuel pump and carb has ports on them to feed the fuel from the pump into the carb for in case the diaphragm goes. (keeps the fuel out of the bilge).
