Can I remove and reinstall the top bearing without splitting the case?

yes. Just loosen the two upper main bolts and you should be able to remove the electrics and pull the main cap right out.

I know you said you dropped the lower unit and ran it on the hose but just in case you ran it on the hose with the gearcase in order to have water pressure I thought I would mention. I have seen the gear cases have problems and the vibration resonate into the powerhead making it sound like powerhead problems.

Also check your motor mounts…

Tim ref our E-mails and telcons? Did you check crank with a dial indicator prior to removing the upper bearing carrier assy? Like I mentioned? I.E. axial play. Just because it looks good doesn't mean it is good. Also remember our telcon about rotating mass and reciprocating mass?

If something rotates and it vibrerates ??? Without actually looking at it UMH??

Bent Rod? Cracked Crank or Bad Crank Bearing(s). You changed flywheels problem still exist there were no cracked or missing magnets ??

Lower was removed and vibration still present??

I did not check the crank with a dial indicator before I removed the top bearing....I think the powerheads coming off at this point to get torn down...im done messing with it.....the powerhead is on the mid with no lower right now with the vibration....

Thats a shame you got rid of such a nice boat without simply finding the problem. Should have only taken maybe 30 minutes max to isolate it.

Because after speaking with the new owner and discussing a few things. It was simply tightening the powerhead bolts back down to the mid.

Had to re adjust the timing and idle for some reason ------- But!!!

Motor runs like a Scalded Azz Ape. No vibration what so ever. He just needs to get the right flywheel back on it.

I spent Hours and hours on that problem....there was def more to it considering I had the power head on and off 3 times looking for that problem.....IF those bolts were loose it was because I was rushed to remove then reinstall the cowling base plate.......I loved that boat but I needed to move on I was getting way to brave driving it and its only a matter of time until a mechanical or mental mistake ruined a nice boat and my body. I hit a wake from a wakeboard boat going a little to fast and scared the chit out of myself then I started thinking about it.
