Anyone ever slalom behind a Skater 21' or similar tunnel? Considering a skater but I ski fairly regular.
If proped right, how are they out of the hole? Maintaning 28-32mph?
Any info appreciated.

dont worry about it, once you buy a skater all other hobbies just don't matter any more

We skied behind our 21 cougar tunnell, but they have different bottom than a Cat. With a hydrolic Jack plate and round ear prop you can bury the motro, trim it in and it will jump right on plane. Depending on setup you should not see any porpose at that low speed. Take the skater for a scoot and see what you think.

I think it would totally suck even if you could make it happen.
21' Skaters don't turn at slow speeds worth a darn....
A 21' cougar is a completely different boat, and one that could be set up well for skiing,
as would most of the tunnels with center pods,
like the 21' or 22' eliminator, 22' dcb, 22' talon and 22' stoker.

Consider a Grandsport, it has a extendable ski pylon and swivel front passenger seat. There is so little wake it is not good for wakeboarding. We even pull the parasail with mine.

If I was to look at a DCB Mach 22 instead, would twins vs single make a noticble difference for the skier (in terms of wake, rather than having your arms ripped out? ;-)

Not good as a ski boat :nonod:

When I sell a 21 Liberator to someone wants to ski, I put on a hyd jackplate to lower the motor. At full up position, is set for top speed runs. Tows a skier at low 20's no problem! Any full tunnel boats like Skaters turn terrible at lower speeds! they lean badly to the outside!
skied behind my 23 daytona with twins and 22 pitch 4 blade round ears, was fun ,took the kids tubing too ,would not consider it my primary ski boat but it will work .in a pinch

It's not going to happen with a true tunnel, a mod vp style ( center pod) tunnel will work, but I'm not a skier..... I have pulled a friend of mine close to 90mph with HST Hydrostream, well what we thought was 90mph, no gps back then..........

not with a 21 skater................some of the other tunnels may be more friendly to skiing but in all reality a v bottom is best for skiing.....

Hey Macutty...Let me give you some first hand great news. I have had 2 single engine 21 Skaters and they make good ski boats. My wife loved the flat wake. I would stay with the lightweight 2.4 or 2.5 rather than the 3 litres. I have had both and prefer the balance with the lighter engine. It will turn fine just leave the plate low and trim out a bit so the sides wont grab and all will be well. Feel free to call me to discuss at 919-889-2201

Tim, I have also owned a couple 21's and you are correct about the wake and pulling power but the problem comes in when turning it. You really need to know how to turn them. I think the other issues are boarding, not so easy and putting someone behind the wheel if you want to ski without seat time in a cat IMO not a good idea :nonod::smiletest:
Just my 2 cents.

I won't post my opinion on how good of a ski boat it would be as I've never seen anyone do it. But one thing you need to look into is insurance, I've had policys on high performance cats from a couple of carriers and pulling skiers and watertoys was not allowed on my policies, it would null and void the insurance.

Thanks guys, appreaciate the feedback. I'll have to get some insurance quotes to see what might be allowed
Starting to think of a Mach 22 instead but it'll likely depend on what I can find on the market.
Cheers

I can't say how well a Skater would be for a ski boat but my Cougar 22MTR(For Sale) is a great recreational ski boat. I pulled a 200lb'r froma deepwater start on a slalom ski using a 21" High-5, I'd run the jackplate up about half way to let the motor spin up a little easier, then as the was dropping over, just drop the j/p down, give the trim 3 bumps to level the boat out and away you go. The boat has a very flat wake for slalom skiing. The boat is great for openwater free skiing but I got a slalom course 3 summers ago and it was hard to keep the tracking straight through the course with an agressive skier in tow. That is why I bought a Malibu Response LX ski boat. I hope this info helps.
Thanks
