I figured it was time to do a little face lift to my orange flake viper. So a quick derig, blow off the 20 year old clear job that was flaking off in sheets with the blow gun!!!. put on a quick coat of clear Imron. paint up the motor and do some new bushing and some solid mounts and a jack plate. Ohh yeah hydrolic steering left from the old boat!!! hope to have it all back together by Mole' fest!!

You should have put a seat on the bow to make it more comfortable for you to sit up there and paddle it in.:D Just kidding Ronnie. It looks great.

RONNIE
08-05-2010, 07:46 PM
come on ralph you know I built a new gearcase already.

Riverratt
08-05-2010, 07:47 PM
Did you ever get your other gearcases back that were missing?

RONNIE
08-05-2010, 07:55 PM

was it still shiny before the clear and you were just freshening it up?
We did that Checkmate last year and there is one spot on the deck that I did a test panel on with just clear imron, and the 2 little platforms on the boat also cleared with imron.
Those areas only have that checking look, but the other areas that were clear primered are holding up beyond my expectations.
That boat was also in pretty good condition but still had that slightly dead oxidized look, not too terrible.

RONNIE
08-06-2010, 07:06 AM
no shine left after I da the whole boat with 320.

RobF
08-06-2010, 07:16 AM
that is not what I meant, I meant before you sanded it how was the boat looking?
nice and shiny but just some areas were peeling?

RONNIE
08-06-2010, 07:21 AM
someone else had sanded and cleared it 20 plus years ago. the whole boat was peeling off in sheets. I blew it all off with the blow gun!!

Ronnie<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />
When you DAed the thing how did you keep from dulling the edges of the flake? Or did you just take the xtra coat of clear off? My experience has always been that when you DA the flake it turns a different shade and looks blotchy (the different shade comes from sanding the edges of the flake down) Looks great Bro but you should have done it in yellow LOL It was good talking to you the other night, let me know when in the spring is good for you and I can start making some arrangements for a southern trip

RONNIE
08-06-2010, 03:11 PM
Hey Rob I had a couple of spots that did show silver edges but you need to be right up on it to even notice it. Outside I dought you could see it. I'm happy with it.

Damyankee
08-06-2010, 03:24 PM
You have a lot better hand on the sander than me, good job. When are you putting a motor on it and starting the training, it must take some time to train a boat like you did the brown one (remember when you told me that you and the brown viper were connected at the ass). Good luck with the project, you were born to drive a viper

Newly lightened used bob's Jack plate(from the brown boat). New transom plate to cover all the holes in the transom. No apology needed, his trailer does look like crap:D

Problem is, he runs in salt, so it's really hard to have a nice trailer.

I have the trailer that boat came on, and it's really nice looking:D

So what would a paint job like that cost?
Is it as much as to paint a pearl job.
I was thinking of repainting the Venus after powering up ...
